Bible Texts: Genesis 1—3. Memory Verses: Romans 8:18 and Romans 8:22a.
We’re thrilled that you let your child attend our VBS!
At VBS, we’re learning how to make sense of our world so we can go forward with hope and purpose. We all want that for our children. But don’t things often seem to work against us? How can our kids face discouraging stuff and still thrive?
On the first day of VBS, we learned the answers to a question where we need to start.
Question: What went wrong with our world?
Takeaway: God promised to fix the brokenness caused by sin. Stay hopeful!
Family Fun
Gather an equal amount of different kinds of items (e.g., 5 paper wads, 5 pens, 5 hair ties). A non-player hides all the items in a room, your house, or your yard. Designate each kind of item to a player. On a signal, players search for their designated “treasure.” The first player to find all of his or her items wins.
Conversation Idea: Some collectors search for valuable items in junkyards. We are valuable to God, worth a lot to Him. When sin broke our world, He already had a plan for our redemption.
Discovering Hope
- God created everything perfect, but sin broke creation.
- Since then, creation and our relationships suffer. Like in a junkyard, things don’t work properly anymore.
- But God gave a promise—one day, a descendant of Eve would fix the problem and make everything right!
