Thanking God

Lesson: Psalm 100

  • God wants us to thank Him because He is good! Name some things to thank God for. 

Verse: “Give thanks to him [God]” (Psalm 100:4)

  • The word ‘him’ means who? (God)

  • Lets say the verse together and clap when saying “give thanks”, point up when saying “to him”. 


Pre-K/K:
Solomon’s Wandering Heart

Lesson: 1 Kings 9:1-11:25

  • Do you think Solomon was loving God with all his heart while he was worshipping idols? (No)

  • Why should we love and worship God with our whole hearts? (He is the one true God, the only God, the only One worthy of our love and worship)

Verse: “Worship the  Lord in the splendor of holiness” (1 Chronicles 16:29)

  • Using your list from last week - find some ways to worship the Lord this week (Sing - sing a song together, Pray - pray out loud together, Read - read a verse/chapter together from the Bible)


1st Grade Sunday School:

Big Change for a Little Guy

Lesson: Luke 19:1-10

  • If we trust in Jesus as our Savior, what should change in our choices and actions?

Verse: Luke 19:10

  • Why did Jesus come to earth?

  • Who is lost in sin?


2nd-3rd Grade Sunday School:

Solomon Made Unwise Choices

Lesson: 1 Kings 9:1-11:25

  • What unwise choices did Solomon make? Were there consequences to these choices?

Verse: Ecclesiastes 12:14

Theme: God warns us about the consequences of sin. 

Application: Solomon’s heart was turned from God by his wives and he stopped taking the warnings about the consequences of sin seriously. Help your child identify sins and take them seriously (not laughing at sin, challenging those around them who live ungodly lives). 


4th-5th Grade Sunday School:

Christ’s Wisdom

Lesson: Ephesians 5:8-17

  • How might a believer expose an unbeliever’s darkness?

Verse: Ephesians 5:14

Theme: Christ leads us with His perfect wisdom. 

Application: This lesson covered Paul’s instructions to walk as children of light so the lost world might see their way out of the darkness of sin. Help your child live with constant awareness of their need to be a good testimony.

1st-3rd Grade Children's Church:

God Raises Up Judges

Lesson: Judges 1-3

  • How has God shown His love and care for you?

  • How should you respond to God’s love and care for you?

Verse: Judge 2:18

  • What does this verse teach us about God?

Toddlers: 

Celebrating the Feast

Lesson: Leviticus 23:33-45

  • What did God tell Moses to have the people bring to the feast? (Their best fruit and animals to give to God).

Verse: “We thank you, our God” (1 Chronicles 29:13)

  • Have the kids repeat the rhyme after you. 

“Loving gifts from God; My mother and father, My brother and sister. They are gifts from God. 

Loving gifts from God; A home so good, My friends and food. These are gifts from God.”


Pre-K/K:

Solomon’s Worship of God

Lesson: 1 Kings 5-8 

  • Why did Solomon build such a grand temple for God? (Because God is so great and holy, Solomon wanted a temple that would represent God’s greatness)

Verse: “Worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness” (1 Chronicles 16:29)

  • Create a list of ways to worship the Lord together. (Sing, give, pray, help, read, love, care, obey)


1st Grade Sunday School:

Neighbor Helping Neighbor

Lesson: Luke 10:25-37

  • How did the priest, Levite, and Samaritan respond to the man on the side of the road?

  • Whose example should we follow?

Verse: Romans 15:2

  • What are we commanded to do?


2nd-3rd Grade Sunday School:

Solomon Built God’s Temple

Lesson: 1 Kings 3:5-8:66

  • What did Solomon ask God for? How did God bless Solomon? How did Solomon handle this gift?

Verse: Psalm 150:1

Theme: God’s name is greatly to be praised. 

Application: In his dedication to the temple, Solomon praised God for keeping all of His promises to David. Help your child give credit to God for all of their accomplishments.

4th-5th Grade Sunday School:

Christ’s Heart

Lesson: Ephesians 4:31-5:7

  • Why might you be afraid to take a stand for Christ around your lost friends? How does any possible rejection or ridicule you might endure for standing for Christ compare to enduring God’s wrath?

Verse: Ephesians 5:2

Theme: Christ loves us with a perfect, everlasting love. 

Application: Walking in love involves keeping ourselves pure and giving thanks so we might maintain a strong testimony. Help your child seek to maintain a good testimony before the lost. 


1st-3rd Grade Children's Church

Joshua Challenges Israel

Lesson: Joshua 23; 24

  • How could you show that you are committed to worshiping and serving God alone?

  • How might your family notice your choice to worship and serve God?

Verse: Joshua 23:14b

  • Talk about all the times God is faithful. “God is faithful even when ________” (I get sick, I do something wrong, etc.)

Lesson: Leviticus 23:33-44

  • What did God want Moses and Israel to remember? (God took care of them during their 40 year journey)

  • Why were Moses and Israel preparing a feast? (To say thank you to God)

  • How long did the feast last? (7 days) 

Verse: “We thank you, our God” (1 Chronicles 29:13)


Per/K-K:

Solomon’s Wisdom from God

Lesson: 1 Kings 3:1-15

  • Which of David’s sons became the next king of Israel? (Solomon)

  • If you were Solomon, what would you ask God to give you? 

Verse: “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105)

  • Write the verse on a paper, grab a flashlight, turn off the lights and read the verse by flashlight. 


1st Grade Sunday School: The Good Shepherd's Sacrifice

Lesson: John 10:1-18

  • How is Jesus like a good shepherd?

  • Why did Jesus need to die on the cross?

Verse: John 10:11

  • Who are Jesus’ sheep?


2nd-3rd Grade Sunday School:

David Sought Forgiveness

Lesson: 2 Samuel 11:1-12:25

  • What did David do and what was his response to this? 

Verse: 1 John 1:9

Theme: God stands ready to forgive our sins. 

Application: The lesson emphasized the need to confess sin to God to restore a relationship with Him, as well as God’s complete and permanent forgiveness of sin. Help your child admit when they have sinned against God and others and confess their sins.

4th-5th Grade Sunday School:

What Wise Friends Do

Lesson: 1 Kings 11:1-6; 12:1-20; Various Proverbs 

  • Do you have any “off” feelings about your friends? Feelings that make you think this friend may not be one that helps me in my walk with Christ?

Verse: Proverbs 1:10, 15

Theme: God wants us to be wise friends who build each other up. 

Application: The proverbs both warned your child about friendships that threaten their spiritually and encouraged your child to be a godly friend.


1st-3rd Grade Children's Church:

God Provides Victory in the Land

Lesson: Joshua 10; 11

  • Read Joshua 11:15 and write a summary of the verse together. Post somewhere visible.

Lesson: Deut. 29:5; Nehemiah 9:21

  • How did God provide for Israel and their clothes? (After 40 years of travel, their clothes and shoes were still good as new)

Verse: “I will give thanks to the LORD” (Psalm 111:1)

  • Repeat the verse together. Clap once as you say each word.


Pre-K/K:

David’s Forgiving Heart

Lesson: 2 Samuel 7; 9

  • How did King David show forgiveness to Mephibosheth? (Gave him King Saul’s land)

Verse: “Let us do good to everyone” (Galatians 6:10)

  • What are some ways you can show kindness to a person who is physically different than you? 


1st Grade Sunday School:

Jesus Gave New Life

Lesson: Luke 7:11-17

  • Can you imagine what it must have been like to watch Jesus raise a man from the dead? What would have been your response?

  • What does Jesus, the Son of God, do?


2nd-3rd Grade Sunday School:

God Made a Royal Promise

Lesson: 2 Samuel 5-7

  • What covenant did God make with David?

Verse: Acts 13:23

Theme: God’s promises reveal His amazing grace. 

Application: One day Jesus will return to earth to set up His Kingdom in fulfillment of the Davidic Covenant. Help your child praise God for His loving grace.

4th-5th Grade Sunday School:

When Kindness Is Right

Lesson: Various Proverbs

  • Have you been affected by having hate in your heart? How?

Verse: Proverbs 3:27

Theme: God desires that we show His love by being kind and generous. 

Application: The proverbs made clear that being kind even to enemies benefits the person showing the kindness. Help your child respond to “enemies” with patient kindness. 


1st-3rd Grade Children's Church:

Gibeonites Use Deception

Lesson: Joshua 9

  • What are some situations in which you should pray for God’s direction?

Verse: Joshua 23:14b

  • How much of God’s word has failed?

  • How much of His Word has God kept?

  • Since God’s word has never failed, and He has kept all His word, what should your response be?
