From Discussion Guide:
General: What
is the book Psalms?
o
Poetry
o
Written by many different
people
o
Most were used in worship
as songs of praise, thanksgiving and lament.
Author
of Psalm 91
o
Not certain
o
Could be Moses because 90 lists him as author and the Psalms are very
similar (See Psalm 90:1 and 91:1)
o Could be David because it has some of the same themes as Psalm 27 and 31.
Over the next 7 weeks we will be looking at this Psalm of Encouragement
6. So What? (Interpretation – what is the meaning?) More questions in the discussion guide.
Revisit the Introductory Activities
Scary Experiences | Why were these experiences scary? What helped you get through these scary experiences? Over and over again, God, God’s angels, and God’s workers remind God’s people to “Fear Not.” Why do you think they have to be reminded so many times and why do you think God tells them not to be afraid.
|
Building | Considering last week’s Fighter Verse – Proverbs 18:10 – what word pictures are the writers using? What are they trying to communicate with these word pictures? |
|
|
7. Now
What? (Application – What
is God’s
intended effect?)
8.
Insight
What are some things you learned or were reminded of in today’s lesson?
9.
Action Steps
Think of some specific
things each person could do to live out the truths learned. You can think about activities for the Now What?
question.
· What kind of physical reminders around your house can you
use to remind you to not be afraid.
10. Prayer
LORD, my refuge and my fortress,
You are the one who shelters and protects.
Help me rest in you! Make me stand firm on
you.
You are the one in whom I must trust.
Amen
