It's All Quiet

The decorations are down.

The building is quiet.

Over the last four nights, a lot of kids and awesome volunteers have been

loudly singing about the armor of God.

learning verses from Ephesians 6

enjoying game time

making crafts

raising money to help Faith In Deeds in India. The kids raised over $650 for orphans.  On a side note, the boys won.

eating snacks

and learning from God's Word.

Tonight, the kids were reminded of 5 different kings.
King Saul.  He was a foolish king who didn't honor God and made excuses for bad behavior.
King David.  He was a good king who wasn't perfect and repented when he sinned against God.
King Solomon.  He was a king who asked God for wisdom but did some very foolish things that went against God's commands.
King Josiah.  Another king who wasn't perfect and tried to help God's people follow God's commands.
and most importantly,

King Jesus, the perfect, most loving, king ever!!
A king who is so perfect that he knows sin must be punished.
A king who is so loving that he took the punishment of sin upon himself.  We need to repent and hope in Him..

What a great King!!

But the question is Who Will Be King?  (https://matthiasmedia.info/2wtl/whowillbeking/)

Parents, grandparents, and others, thanks bringing your kids out to Trinity's VBS.  We also want to let you know about several other opportunities.

Keepers of the Kingdom Part 1

On Thursday night at 10:00 pm, the wrap post of VBS 2023 will be up on this page.

Two of our four nights of VBS are done.  Tonight we enter the second half.  It has a great week.

On Thursday night at 10:00 pm, a summary of the week and links to several things we talked about will be posted.

Here is the song we have sung each night, and the lyrics we are going to emphasize in Wednesday night's opening session.

While it has been great to have fun, play games, and make crafts with the kids, the BIGGEST and BEST part is sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  On Tuesday night, we gave out Two Ways to Live magnets to each family because we believe the Gospel is the MOST IMPORTANT GOOD NEWS!!

Here is a video of Faith In Deeds, the orphanage in India, we are raising money for.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY

VBS STARTS MONDAY, JUNE 19.  IF you haven't signed up, go to tbcgrkidz.myanswers.com/keepers-of-the-kingdom/

THEOLOGY MATTERS - More info coming later.

On this Father's Day and every day, talk about who God is and how we should live because of this.

God, the Father's Day cards were given to the parents today after Sunday School.  It was my (Pastor Dave's) pathetic attempt at showing how awesome God is. Some attributes of God's attributes using  EIEIO's.  Below is the word and a brief description.

    • Eternal - no beginning and no end.
    • Immutable - doesn't change.  Think mutations.
    • Exists - His existence doesn't depend on anyone or anything.  From Sunday School, this is aseity
    • Impeccable - without sin
    • Omnipotent - all-powerful
    • Omnipresent - all-present
    • Omniscient - all knowing
    • Omnibenevolent. - perfect, unlimited goodness.  You can connect this with the benevolent fund at Trinity.

For an in-depth Bible study on Theology Proper, check out Knowing the Living God by Paul Washer.  Forty-seven different chapters.  Chapter 2, "Growing in the Knowledge of God," begins with carefully considering what Psalm 105:4-5 says. Paul Washer writes, "We are not to be casual or apathetic in our pursuit of the person and the will of God, but determined and active - even ambitious."  How are you being determined, active, and even ambitious in teaching your children about God?

Here are some formal and informal ways to talk about God.

Here are some formal, planned ways to talk with your children about God.

  1. After church or during the week, talk to your child about what they learned this week at church.  Each class's basic lesson points are posted here at tbcgrkidz.org
  2. Do a Bible reading or memory plan like The Fighter Verses or a storybook Bible.
Here is an article about a grandparent using an informal time (stopping at a red) to talk about deeper truths with their child - Knowing and Applying God's Word at slow traffic lights.

Pastor Jason and Pastor Dave recently talked about these formal and informal Bible times on a Trinity Life podcast -Parenting and Family Devotions

Pray for VBS 2023

"Prayer, reflection, and worship should be at the centerpiece of what you do for VBS, because in the middle of managing the day-to-day tasks and the endless to-do lists, this most important centerpiece can get lost."  For the entire AiG article "The Calm Before the Storm," click HERE

Prayer Requests for Keeper of the Kingdom VBS 2023

Matthew 22:37 - 40 is a great passage to use as a prayer guide for Trinity's  Keeper of the Kingdom VBS 2023.

If these contain Jesus' answers to the question, "Which is the greatest commandment in the law?" then we should pray God would give us the wisdom and ability to follow these commands.

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.

And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Prayer #1:

Pray the workers' first desire would be to glorify God as they teach the Bible to children (v. 37).  Pray we would love the Lord, our God, with all our heart, with all our soul, and with all our mind, even as energy is drained throughout the week.

Prayer #2:

Pray the workers would love the kids God brings to VBS (v.39).  We would love to have a large number of kids here so they can hear God's Word taught.  We also want to be thankful for every single child, no matter the total number God brings.

Prayer #3:

Pray the kids will grow closer and closer to God and love Him more and more.  If it be God's will, may He use the time in VBS to help kids love God with all their heart, soul, and mind.

Prayer #4:

Pray for ongoing opportunities to minister to the kids and families from VBS.  Some of the families will have solid, Bible-preaching churches.  Let's thank God for the brief part we are able to play in these families lives.  Some of the families will be part of the Trinity church family.  Let's thank God for another opportunity to build into these families lives.  Some of the families will not have a solid, Bible-preaching home church.  Let's pray that, if the Lord wills, these families can connect with Trinity Baptist Church, and they would grow in the Lord.

Prayer #5

Pray for Faith In Deeds, the orphanage in India we are raising money for this year.

BOTTOMLINE,  let's pray for our church family to make the most of this ministry opportunity for the glory of God.

Kids Praying for Our Church Family

The BIG IDEA for the 1st - 5th graders in Children's Church Sunday morning was "God wants us to rely on Him."  We looked at Elijah and the prophets of Baal in 1 Kings 18 and 19.

With this as our lesson and several different prayers needs that directly impact the kids at TBC, the last part of the lesson was changed.  The focus was on praying the Bible for one another.  First, we talked about ways we rely on God.  Three of the specific ways mentioned were praying, reading the Bible, and being part of the church.

So we looked at a prayer in the Bible for a church.  It is the same prayer we looked at on May 28th in our combined class time.

Parents, read through Colossians 1:9 - 14verse by verse, and ask your children what you can pray from each verse.  Read until the end.

For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives,
  • be filled with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding that the Spirit gives.  What does this mean?
so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in
every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,
  • so that you may honor God in the way you live
  • that you would bear fruit
  • that you would grow in the knowledge of God
being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience,
  • be strengthened
  • have endurance and patience
and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.
  • giving thanks to God
For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son, he loves,
  • thankful for what God has done for us through Jesus
in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
  • thankful for redemption and forgiveness of sins.
The kids read through these verses in 3 small groups and talked about how we can pray for each other.
When people are hurting, we can pray that they would know we love them and that God loves them.
We can also show hurting people the love of God by helping them because we know that God provided for our ultimate need in Jesus.
We can pray that in ways that only God knows that our church family will honor God as we go through hardships and help others go through hardships.

Here is a summary of a conversation from the children's church time.
Child #1:  Pray for me and my family; our kitten died.
Dave:  How can we pray for [this child and family]?
Child #2:  We can pray for [this family] to get a new cat so they can have some comfort.
Dave:  We can pray for a new pet, but even more than that, we can pray that [this family] and [this child] will grow in how they trust and hope in God.

This post includes:

1.  This Week's Missionaries
2.  THEOLOGY MATTERS for Kids ideas
3.  Sunday Morning Info

1.  This week's Missionaries are the Pools.

2.  THEOLOGY MATTERS for Kids

What is the Bible?

A very basic, very important lesson you can begin teaching even the youngest kids is "The Bible is God's Word."

The picture that was sent on Sunday and below has statements and symbols showing what the Bible does.

  • Cover the words and show the symbol or draw the symbol

  • Ask “What is the symbol?” and “What does it say about the Bible?”

Each lesson in the children’s classes is from the Bible.  Read the Bible passage from your child’s lesson

It is important to remind your family

what the Bible is (Repeat the "The Bible is God's Word" while showing your Bible; do activities with blindfolds, dark rooms, and flashlights - seeing clear

why it is important (Remind your child the importance of knowing God and we learn more and more about him from the Bible - blurry pictures or incomplete puzzle; Review 1 Timothy 3:16, 17)

how to study (popsicle sticks with the books of the Bible to learn the order;  the book Bible Reading with Your Kids is very helpful)

REMEMBER in July kids and parents are together during class.

Parents of 1st through 5th graders, today's lesson on Elijah was tweaked to reflect the various prayer needs in our church today.  The passage and other info are at the end of this post.  The BIG IDEA was "God wants us to rely on Him."  We specifically took time to talk about relying on God by praying Biblical prayers.

Check back tomorrow for a post on praying the Bible with your kids.

A great way to connect with your children and children in your neighborhood is by bringing them and inviting them to Vacation Bible School.

June 4

Missionary – The Phillips

THEOLOGY MATTERS for Kids:

BIG QUESTION:  Why is it important to learn more about God and His Word?

Bible Passage to Think About:  Psalm 78:4b-7 -  As your parents, we want you trust and hope in God.  Studying the Bible, praying, and worshipping with others builds our hope and yours.

Some conversation starters:

    • Ask
      • "What are some important things to remember?"  You can make it specific.  "What are some important things to remember in our house, in a game or sport, at school?"
      •  "Why are those things important?"
      • "Why is it important the know God and the truths about him?"  Before asking this question, you can do the ABC activity.  The two articles below give some good reasons for children to study theology.
    • "God is..." ABC's.  As a family, use each letter of the alphabet to talk about who God is.  Write them down where you can see them and be reminded of God.  Depending on the age and ability of the children, talk about how certain attributes should impact the way we live.
    • Ask your children, what they have been learning about God and what they know about God.  Don't just ask this question this week. Ask this question after church each Sunday.  Too often, the only question kids are asked after church is "Did you have fun?"  What is that teaching them about the church and the study of God and the Bible?
