Toddlers:

Jesus in the Temple

Lesson: Luke 2:41-47

  • What did Jesus do in the temple? (Listened to teachers read from God’s Word)

Verse: “Let us go to the house of the Lord.” (Psalm 122:1)

  • Have your child draw a picture representing the verse and talk about it together. 


Pre-K/Kindergarten:

Jesus Obeyed the Father

Lesson: Matt. 3

  • Repentance was discussed in the lesson today - talk about the meaning of ‘repent’. (To stop what you are doing and go the other way)

  • Baptism was also discussed. Talk about the importance of baptism as believers. (We should not be baptized unless we believe Jesus died for our sin, was buried, and rose again for us. Baptism is the first way we show our obedience after we have trusted Jesus as Savior)

Verse: “A voice from heaven said, This is my beloved Son” (Matt. 3:17)

  • Have your child draw a picture representing the verse and talk about it together. 


1st Grade SS:

King Saul Lost His Patience

Lesson: 1 Samuel 13:1-16

  • How did Saul show disobedience to God? 

Verse: John 14:15

  • Have your child draw a picture representing the verse and talk about it together. 

Application: Help your child recognize the importance of obedience in actions and attitudes. 


2nd/3rd Grade SS:

Israel Finally Fell

Lesson: 2 Kings 17

  • How were the wicked Assyrians able to conquer Israel? Were they stronger than God?

Verse: 1 Corinthians 10:12

Theme: God warns us about the seriousness of sin.  

Application: This week covered the fall of Israel. God warned them about their sin, but Israel rejected the warnings. So God allowed Assyria to take Israel captive. Help your child understand he or she needs God’s help in resisting temptation.


4th/5th Grade SS:

The Word Cares for His Flock

Lesson: John 9; 10

  • How can I hear Jesus, my good shepherd?

Verse: John 10:11

Theme: The Word cares for us like a good shepherd cares for sheep. 

Application: Jesus presented himself as the Good Shepherd. He compared Himself to the Pharisees to show His sacrificial love for His sheep. Help your child see Jesus’ direction in his/her life from His Word. 


1st-3rd Grade CC:

Samson’s Downfall

Lesson: Judges 16

Theme: God wants us to desire to please Him about all else. 

  • What are some things you can do to please God?

Verse: Judges 10:16a

  • Create a verse hunt with the verse. Write 1-2 words on a card and hide them around the house. Once all cards have been found, put the verse in the correct order.

Lesson: Jonah

  • What part do good works have in your salvation?

Verse: Titus 3:5

Theme: God wants us to share the message of His mercy and grace. 

Application: This week covered the account of Jonah. God went after Jonah when he ran from God. Help your child know that mercy is God withholding just punishment for sin.

4th/5th Grade SS:

The Word Lights the Way

Lesson: John 7; 8

  • How can my life be a light to the lost world?

Verse: John 8:12

Theme: The Word shows the way to the Father. 

Application: Jesus presented Himself as the light of the world. He provides the light of salvation for the lost living in darkness. Your child was challenged to let Christ’s light shine through his or her life so the lost might see their need of salvation. Help your child understand the importance of living a good testimony before the lost. 


1st-3rd Grade CC:

Lesson: Judges 13-15

Theme: God gives us the ability to do His will. 

  • What abilities has God given you?

Verse: Judges 10:16a

  • Create a picture to represent the verse. Write the verse under the picture. Recite the verse daily.

  • What did the wise men bring Jesus? (presents)

  • How did the wise men know where Jesus lived? (They followed a star)

  • Use the motions from last week to practice the verse together. 

  • Write the verse on notecards (one word per notecard) and have your child(ren) put them in correct order.

  • What did the angel tell Joseph to do? (Take Mary and young Jesus to Egypt)

Joash Stopped Listening

Lesson: 2 Chronicles 22-24

  • Why did Jehoiada the priest give Joash a copy of God’s Word (“the testimony”)?

Verse: 1 Corinthians 4:2

Theme: God desires our lifelong devotion. 

Application: This week’s lesson covered the rise and fall of King Joash of Judah. Jehoiada anointed Joash king and then led him in making godly reforms in Judah. Help your child seek to learn God’s Word to strengthen his or her devotion to God. 


4th/5th Grade SS:

The Word Satisfies Hunger

Lesson: John 5; 6

  • Why did Jesus say we need to eat His flesh?

Verse: John 6:51

Theme: The Word provides for our greatest needs. 

Application: Jesus fed the 5,000 and His subsequent claim to be the Bread of Life. As such, He is the only answer for sin. God saves all those who put their faith in Jesus’ death as the payment for their sins. Help your child understand (s)he doesn’t need to do anything to earn God’s grace for salvation. 


1st-3rd Grade CC:

Jephthah: Rejected and Selected

Lesson: Judges 10:6-11:28, 32, 33

Theme: God values our willingness to serve Him. 

  • What would you consider your attitude to be toward serving others?

Verse: Judges 10:16a

  • Write the verse on a notecard and hang somewhere visible to practice together daily.

Elisha Revealed God’s Heart

Lesson: 2 Kings 2:1-14; 4:1-37; 5

  • How did God provide for Elisha in today’s lesson?

Verse: Lamentations 3:24

Theme: God provides for our needs from His loving, giving heart. 

Application: This week covered Elisha’s heart for God and God’s heart for His people. Help your child seed to glorify God no matter the circumstances he or she faces. 


4th/5th Grade SS:

The Word Quenches Thirst

Lesson: John 3:22-4:54

  • Why did Jesus compare the Spirit to “living water”?

Verse: John 4:14

Theme: The Word speaks with life-giving power and authority. 

Application: Jesus had a conversation with a Samaritan woman and He offered her “living water”, a reference to the Holy Spirit and salvation. Every believer receives the Spirit at salvation. Help your child depend on the Spirit for strength to obey and serve God. 


1st-3rd Grade CC:

Gideon’s Wholehearted Soldiers

Lesson: Judges 7

Theme: God wants us to show our faith in Him

  • How can you demonstrate your faith in God?

Verse: Judges 2:18a
