Lesson: Exodus 17:1-6

  • What did Moses do to get water for Israel? (Hit a rock with his rod)

  • How would you have felt if you saw an enormous, angry, wicked warrior (Goliath)? 

Verse: “Be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might” (Ephesians 6:10)

  • Repeat the verse together a few times. Draw a picture to represent the verse.

Lesson: John 4:46-53

  • Share a time when you put your faith in Christ and acted in response to your faith. Ask if your child has a time when they acted based on their faith in God.

God Ended Saul’s Reign 

Lesson: 1 Samuel 28:3-25; 31

  • What lessons can we learn from Saul’s life and seeing Saul so worried and helpless?

Verse: Proverbs 13:15

Theme: God troubles those who reject Him. 

Application: Saul’s life is an example of what happens when we disobey God, and warns us to humble ask God for strength and wisdom to obey Him. Help your child recognize the foolishness of disobedience.

4th-5th Grade Sunday School:

Why Honesty is the Best Policy

Lesson: Various Proverbs

  • Have you ever been tempted to lie because you believed no one would find out about it? What’s wrong with that thinking?

Verse: Proverbs 12:19

Theme: God rejoices when we are honest with each other. 

Application: The proverbs revealed God’s hatred for lying. Help your child own up to their sin rather than trying to hide it. 


1st-3rd Grade Children's Church:

  • Part of God’s law is the Ten Commandments, what are some of the commandments?

  • What are some other commands God expects us to obey?

Application: David expressed his deep trust in God even as he ran for his life. Help your child with praising God no matter their circumstances.

How Humility Brings Honor

Lesson: Various Proverbs

  • How does learning about the destruction of the proud encourage you to humble yourself before God?

Verse: Proverbs 16:18

Theme: God honors us when we walk humbly before Him. 

Application: The proverbs revealed that God hates pride and that pride brings destruction. It also revealed that humility brings honor. Help your child serve others without being asked.


1st-3rd Grade Children's Church:

Victory Over Jericho

Lesson: Joshua 5:13-6:27

  • What did Rahab have to do to be saved from destruction?

  • What did Joshua and the nation have to do in order to be victorious over Jericho?

  • We use meat for good food to eat. How did God provide meat to Israel?

Verse: “God is great” (Job 36:26)

  • God takes such good care of us! What are some ways God takes care of us? (Moms & Dads, food)


Pre-K/K:

King Saul’s Life

Lesson: 1 Samuel 15:1-29

  • What did King Saul not destroy? (King Agag and the best sheep)

  • How well did Saul obey God? (Not well. He obeyed some, but not all the way)

  • Was God pleased with King Saul? (No) Why? (God wants obedience first. He wants us to do what He tells us to)

Verse: “Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice” (1 Samuel 15:22)

  • Activity: Call out commands for your child to follow as they say the verse. Suggestions: Whisper as you say the verse, clap your hands as you say the verse, stand on one leg.


1st Grade Sunday School:

Jesus Solved a Big Problem

Lesson: Mark 8:1-9

  • How did Jesus show that He not only loves us but cares about our daily needs?

Verse: Philippians 4:19

  • How will Jesus supply our needs?


2nd-3rd Grade Sunday School:

God Protected David 

Lesson: 1 Samuel 18; 19

  • What was God’s clear message to Saul?

Verse: Psalm 56:3, 4

Theme: God completes His will no matter His opposition.  

Application: Saul hated David and thought he could change God’s plans. But no one can stop God’s plans, especially His plan of salvation. Help your child with their confidence in the permanence of their salvation. 


4th-5th Grade Sunday School:

Where Wisdom Begins 

Lesson: Various Proverbs

  • Have you ever thought living for God would cause you to miss out on all the fun in life? Explain. 

Verse: Proverbs 1:7

Theme: God gives us direction in life as we learn to fear Him. 

Application: To fear God is to respect Him and to believe He is and does all He claims. Your child was encouraged to respect God and to live according to His wisdom. Help your child spend time in God’s Word to increase their fear of God. 


1st-3rd Grade Children's Church:

Crossing the Jordan

Lesson: Joshua 3; 4

  • What did God want the Israelites to remember each time they saw the memorial of stones?

  • What did you learn about following God from this Bible account?

Verse: Joshua 1:8, 9

  • How did God demonstrate His presence with Joshua and Israel?

  • Do you think this helped Joshua be strong and courageous?

King Saul’s Excuse

Lesson: 1 Samuel 13:1-16

  • Did King Saul obey God? What did he do? (No. He made a sacrifice God told him not to.)

  • What should we do when we disobey God? (Ask for forgiveness) 

Verse: “Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice” (1 Samuel 15:22)

  • Would God rather have you obey Him or have you sing a song of praise to Him? (God loves songs but only when you sing with an obedient heart)


1st Grade Sunday School:

Jesus Forgave Sin

Lesson: Mark 2:1-12

  • What 2 blessings did the paralyzed man receive?

  • What does Jesus have the power, or authority, to do?

David Aimed to Defend God’s Name

  • What did David do that showed he had faith in God?

Theme: God does great things through those who know and trust Him. 

Application: David trusted God’s name and fought in God’s name. Help your child see God wants to do great things through them.

4th-5th Grade Sunday School:

God Forgives Our Sin

Lesson: 2 Samuel 11; 12; Psalm 51

  • What might believers do to stop from feeling guilty about their sin?

Verse: Psalm 51:17

Theme: God offers us forgiveness of sin and restoration to His service. 

Application: David owned up to his sin, confessed it, and asked God to restore his joy. Help your child regularly confess their sins to God.

Lesson: 1 Samuel 12

  • Where did Hannah bring Samuel? Why? (To the tabernacle to live with Eli, she promised God to give her son if He answered her prayers.)

  • What did Samuel become? (A good prophet and teacher.)

Verse: “I will instruct you in the good and the right way” (1 Samuel 12:23)

  • God is our ultimate teacher. Who are some people who help teach you? (Mom, Dad, coach, etc.)

God desires our obedience over sacrifice.

Theme: God desires our obedience over sacrifice. 

Application: Saul attempts to excuse and make up for his sins. God didn’t excuse Saul’s sins and promised to rip the kingdom from him., Help your child confess their sin in order to gain God’s forgiveness.

4th-5th Grade Sunday School:

God Deserves Our Trust

Lesson: Psalm 57

  • What talents, abilities, and skills could you use to exalt God’s name? 

Verse: Psalm 57:4a, 5

Theme: God’s glory gives us reason to rejoice no matter what. 

Application: The lesson encouraged your child to praise God no matter their circumstances. Help your child understand they don’t need to despair when facing difficulties.

1st-3rd Grade Children's Church:

Lesson: Joshua 1

  • What are some situations in which you need courage to obey God?

  • How can the promise of God’s presence and the instruction to obey give you courage?
